London Fashion Week: What To Expect

That time has come round again. The time when London is transformed into even more of a beautiful, energised, stylish city than it already is (if that is possible). It’s nearly time for London Fashion Week.

When? 15th- 19th February

Where? Somerset House, London (mostly).

Who? The big dogs include Burberry, Christopher Kane, Erdem, Mary Katrantzou, Mulberry and Vivienne Westwood, to name just a few.

Ones to watch? Christopher Kane is always at the forefront of fashion, and is sure to prove the hottest ticket in town. The same goes for Burberry, who bring down Somerset House year after year, and with additional attention this year after their decision to feature Romeo Beckham in their ad campaign. Topshop Unique gets stronger season after season, and it’s mass impact is phemonmenal.

I know it’s very early to be thinking about what to wear next Autumn and Winter- I for one am not packing away this season’s warm gear any time soon. However, it is quite refreshing to be thinking about the next generation of Winter goodies- especially when the high street is already shoving neon bikinis down our throats.

I am lucky enough to be attending London Fashion Week (or #LFW as I now call it in my head. Thanks, Twitter…). Whilst I am obviously in great anticipation of the models storming down the catwalk, swaddled in the hottest new trends, what I am really excited about is seeing what everyone else wears. It is a truth universally acknowledged that women dress for other women. The explosion of blogs and ‘street-style’ features in even the glossiest magazines has brought style-spying to the very forefront of fashion. Bloggers will be snapping, journos will be scribbling and cameras will be flashing- but not just at the models.

Street style is perhaps the ultimate expression of what fashion is about. Fashion isn’t the over-priced handbags behind a foot of glass in a Bond Street store, guarded ferociously by over-zealous security staff. Fashion is about how its followers choose it, wear it and modify it. London Fashion Week will, for one all too short week, bring this alive. And I can’t bloody wait.

If you are craving first knowledge of what we will all be wearing for Autumn 2013, many of the shows will be streamed live online. Obviously my Burberry invitation got lost in the post, so I will be joining the FRow from the comfort of my sofa with a cuppa.

London Fashion Week will without doubt be amazing. If you are lucky enough to be living, or just lurking, in the capital next week, I strongly recommend lingering in the area just to witness the greatest catwalk on the pavement you will probably ever see.
